But the real question is - when do Applications stop supporting 11.11?

Example - we are migrating to Itanium (which is 11.23 or higher) and for example, SAP MDM is only supported on 11.31 on Itanium (and 11.11 parisc) and all new modules from SAP are only being released on 11.31 Itanium.

Quote from SAP rep:

"The core message regarding HP-UX will be:
* For SAP Product versions released in 2009 and later, SAP will provide server components for HP-UX only in a version for the Itanium processor family.
* SAP Product versions released for the HP-UX PA-RISC processor family before 2009 are not affected by this announcement. SAP is committed to continue support for SAP product versions released for HP-UX PA-RISC before 2009 under the respective maintenance and support agreements.
* SAP Products are generally available for HP-UX on Itanium since R/3 4.6B. Upgrade and migration tools will offer our customers a safe and efficient transition to the new future proof technologies.
* SAP and HP are committed to protecting our customers' investments in our products and services. Our road map will enable our customers to remain well positioned in the future."

Rgds...Geoff

HI (again):

> Geoff: But the real question is - when do Applications stop supporting 11.11?

Geoff makes a valid point, BUT the inverse question is equally true. There are certainly large numbers of applications (and vendors) that are slow to certify their products on current releases. This leaves a vast pool of old, out-of-support operating systems that must be kept running beyond what one might like!

Regards!

...JRF...
