where should i set the passwd for min length in hp-ux
as in linux it is in /etc/login.defs

Hi,

Depends if it is a trusted or untrusted system.

For an untrusted system, have a look at the /etc/default/security

MIN_PASSWORD_LENGTH=8

Note an untrusted sysem only the first eight characters of a password are significant.

Hi sandeep,

on a trusted system set it in /tcb/files/auth/system/default file :
u_minchg#0:u_maxlen#8

On an untrusted system only the first 8 characters are valued anyway

Hi there,
On trusted systems you can use SAM for passwd related stuffs. Navigate through SAM -> Auditing and Security -> global system security policies

Man page says:
SAM performs system administration tasks in the following areas:

Auditing and Security (Trusted Systems)

+ Set global system security policies

+ Maximum account inactivity period
+ Password generation policies
+ Null password usage and use of password restriction
rules
+ Password aging
+ Maximum unsuccessful login attempts
+ Single-user boot authorization
+ Terminal security policies
