I too am moving printers from one HP to another. I have followed Clay's directions for coping the /var/sam/lp/lpinfo to the new machine, but when I get into SAM on the new machine, the save/restore spooler area lists all of the printers from the old HP. I click restore, it takes about 30 sec and then says restored. I look in the printer/plotters area and it's blank, nothing restored. Spooler is off. I turn it on and still nothing. Default locations not defined. Any help would be great (I'm a NT admin who is migrating into the UNIX world). Thanks...

I will shortly be replacing one of my development Oracle servers.

I would like to use tar to pack all the printer settings on the old system into a file, then unpack that file on the new system without having to add all the printers individually. How is this done?

Also, where can I find the "jetadmin" utility?

The easy way is to go into SAM under printers and 'Save Printer Configuration'. This saves the printer stuff under /var/sam/lp. You transfer this file to the new box and using SAM
'Restore Printer Configuration'. You must also install JetAdmin software on the new box.

With your help, I successfully exported the printer definitions, and I'm loading jetdirect now.

Thanks a lot! I'd give you some points, but the CGIs seem to be broken.

Hi Peter,

You really need to enter a new message (thread) instead of adding a question to an old thread. That way you can enable notification to receive emails whenever someone replies and you can assign points to the replies you receive.

You can cut and paste the URL of any links you'd like to refer to. For example, this is a good thread to read:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x316efd3f91d3d5118ff40090279cd0f9,00.html

Darrell
