CDE

HP9000/800/K220 Running 11.0 OS

It seems that when I connect to my server via eXceed (and not via rlogin), I have problems logging out. This appears to be causing problems with users being refused CDe access - I killed a whole bunch of my own old shell processes to help some other folks get back in.

When you click on the "Exit" button from the CDe console, you often get no logout prompt. It seems that closing eXceed does not end your session, causing this backlog.

Any suggestions?

We use eXceed to K servers running 11.0 without many problems. If you dont get the LOGOUT box up after clicking on exit on the CDE menubar then something is wrong with the users' CDE config or the HP server is having problems with CDE. Usually these are user problems, mainly caused by the option "Return to current session" selected from startup. This is easily fixed by ensuring each user has "return to home session" selected, and then use "set home session" - which will save your current windows layout (eg, a couple of dtterms). If all else fails when a user is not logged into CDE remove completely their $HOME/.dt directory. It will be rebuilt next time they login and logout should work fine.
Check your exceed configuration. Be sure that exceed allows a remote X server reset. If not, exit from CDE will not appear to do anything and future attempts to do so will result in Tooltalk errors.
