how do you check and change the max volume group from default of 10. Will the change have any efect on memory.

depending on the OS Version.

kmtune -s maxvgs=number

11.23
kctune maxvgs=number

requires reboot for both.

11.31
obsoleted

There parameter only reservers slots, I would believe like any other parameter like this the mem usage is minimal. I would not get too carried away but I typically default my systems to 50 so I do not have to deal with it.

Hi Steven:

Everything Tim has said applies. Each increment in 'maxvgs' uses about about 4-8KB of lockable physical memory.
