Dear All,

I have a rp5470 server with HP-UX B.11.11. Full backup is configured with fbackup utility on every sunday.

Before this we have been doing volume copy from storage to storage from other server (BC copy) and remounting the FS. Right now the database is down on this server for so many days and cold backup is scheduled.

for the last two weeks I am getting the following error.

May 11 08:11:56 iman vmunix: msgcnt 784 vxfs: mesg 008: vx_direrr: vx_dirlook_4 - /volume2 file system inode 6 block 274121 error 6

May 18 08:36:03 iman vmunix: msgcnt 1541 vxfs: mesg 008: vx_direrr: vx_dirlook_4 - /volume2 file system inode 65 block 2678615 error 6

Please suggest.
Regards :
Arun Jain

I'd start checking the integrity of your disk
Using fsck and dd.

Instead of recreating the wheel I point you to a n existing thread
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=64630
Shalom Arun,

I lean toward a hardware problem on the disk.

I'd also check the database logs and make sure its shutting down cleanly.

The dbshut script for oracle ships in what I feel is not a correct sequence. It says shutdown, which will wait forever for sessions to close. shutdown immediate is better if you ever want the database to close user sessions and actually shut down.

SEP
