Hi Gurus,
I was trying to increase some of the kernel parameters. But I am unable to do so because it exceeds that max value.

Could you please let me know is there any manual method to do this. Do we need to edit system file and prepare the kernel.
I was trying to increase these value.

OS Ver:11.11,
Reason for change : Required for oracle 10g.

semmap
32672
90502

semmni
32670
90500

semmns
32676
65340

Thank you
Sreeram

Sreeram,

Acording to the man page this is the maximum allowed:

Maximum: semmni+2, or less than or equal to 32767.

I do not know of any way to exceed the maximum.

Regards,

Jaime.

Well, my first comment is...just because Oracle says so, doesn't mean you should.

Try running some sar commands (sar -mS 1 20) and see what your semm* utilization is before you make blanket changes just because some vendor tells you too.

...and max tends to mean max value. Obviously if you exceed this and there is a problem, it would not be supported.

Just my thoughts,
Rgrds,
Rita

FYI,

Over the years I have found that Oracle's recommendations and other vendors have recommended settings outside of the max range.

This leads me to question the entire list of recommendations from these vendors.

Now, back to your question. No you cannot increase the setting past its maximum.
