Have a HPUX 11iv1 server having A9784 (HP 2Gb Fibre Channel" using fcd driver connected to 3PAR and HP storage array. I see the HP host constantly logging (PRLI) in and logging out (LOGO) of the 3PAR Fibre Channel array. The logging and logging out happens irrespective of if the LUNs are presented or not. If lvm volumes are created then the logging in and out stops while it continuously sends scsi inquiry every 1 min and sometimes 2 or 5 min apart for each of the LUNs. I am suspecting the server might be having some monitoring service or checker which might be constantly checking for device existence or HBA connection causing the HBA port to login and out or sends inquiry so many times. This does not happen on the test server even if there are no lvm volumes having same driver and hpux OS ver. Can somebody help me to figure out how to find which process is checking or opening the device so often from the process id's or any other mechanism.

Some installed software suspects i have are these.

# swlist
...
21 CMDVIEWSDM 1.09.00 HP StorageWorks Command View VA
38 OnlineDiag
48 HPCVCOMCLI 4.00.00 hp StorageWorks Command View - common client
49 HPCVVASVR 1.09.00 hp StorageWorks Command View SDM - va server
50 HPOVSAMDA 03.20.01.0009 hp OpenView storage area manager HostAgent DIAL
51 HPOVSAMHA 03.20.01.0019 hp OpenView storage area manager HostAgent Framework
52 HPOVSAMSG 03.20.03.0002 hp OpenView storage area manager HostAgent SCSI Gateway
53 HPSWSEC 4.00.00 hp StorageWorks Command View - security

# swlist -l
....
PHCO_29606 1.0 VERITAS VM Provider Patch for NBU 5.0
PHCO_28167 B.11.11.18 HP Array Manager/60 cumulative patch
PHCO_35827 1.0 VERITAS VM Mgmt Service Provider Patch 06

# ps -ef
...
37 root 450 0 0 Jun 2 ? 0:00 dmprestored
74 root 1597 1 0 Jun 2 ? 0:02 sbin/hostwatchdog
124 root 2005 1 0 Jun 2 ? 0:00 /usr/sbin/stm/uut/bin/tools/monitor/RemoteMonitor

Attached is the swlist and process id's present on the system.
