So I understand how to correct this.
Too many telnet sessions open, and we need to increase the nstrtel kernel parameter.
What I dont understand is how it got to that.

When I logged in and did a "w"
I had sessions still logged in that I no for a fact that that user is not logged in. It was actually on one user (dvan) that seemed to be the problem, which put it passed the limit of 60 of the nstrtel parameter.

They use an exceed session that they log in thru telnet, to bring back a xwidows app.

So, I need to understand why they sessions were not cleared. Because I can increase the parameter and still be in the same boat.

8:51am up 55 days, 10:41, 63 users, load average: 0.09, 0.07, 0.06
User tty login@ idle JCPU PCPU what
root console 8:49am1330:39 /usr/sbin/getty console console
vsanjose pts/ta 10:05pm394:46 -sh
dvan pts/tb 7:22am601:29 -sh
dvan pts/tc 7:22am817:29 -sh
vsanjose pts/td 12:48pm332:04 -sh
dvan pts/te 7:28am817:23 -sh
dvan pts/tf 10:16am814:35 -sh
dvan pts/tg 7:17am745:34 -sh
lhradow1 pts/1 8:51am w
dvan pts/th 7:22am793:29 -sh
dvan pts/ti 7:21am745:30 -sh
dvan pts/tj 7:58am768:53 -sh
dvan pts/tk 8:03am408:48 -sh
dvan pts/tl 7:21am337:31 -sh
dvan pts/tm 7:20am649:31 -sh
dvan pts/tn 9:44am743:07 -sh
dvan pts/to 7:21am649:30 -sh
dvan pts/tp 7:27am793:24 -sh
dvan pts/tq 7:23am625:28 -sh
dvan pts/tr 7:21am673:30 -sh
dvan pts/ts 7:21am337:30 -sh
dvan pts/tt 7:27am673:24 -sh
dvan pts/tu 7:30am625:22 -sh
dvan pts/tv 7:26am601:25 -sh
dvan pts/tw 7:20am505:31 -sh
jmotz pts/tx 11:08am141:43 -sh
dvan pts/ty 7:13am481:39 -sh
dvan pts/tz 7:20am313:31 -sh
dvan pts/tA 7:21am577:30 -sh
dvan pts/tB 7:21am145:30 -sh
dvan pts/tC 10:14am670:38 -sh
dvan pts/tD 7:30am577:22 -sh
dvan pts/tE 7:16am481:35 -sh
dvan pts/tF 7:29am313:22 -sh
dvan pts/tG 7:26am505:25 -sh
dvan pts/tH 7:34am457:17 -sh
dvan pts/tI 10:41am502:10 -sh
dvan pts/tJ 7:17am169:34 -sh
dvan pts/tK 8:15pm468:36 -sh
dvan pts/tL 7:26am145:25 -sh
dvan pts/tM 7:18am457:33 -sh
dvan pts/tN 7:39am289:12 -sh
dvan pts/tO 7:43am289:08 -sh
dvan pts/tP 7:23am169:28 -sh
dvan pts/tQ 7:24am265:28 -sh
dvan pts/tR 7:31am265:21 -sh
dvan pts/tS 7:21am121:31 -sh
jmotz pts/tT 11:17am141:34 -sh
dvan pts/tU 7:22am 97:29 -sh
jmotz pts/tV 7:52am168:59 -sh
dvan pts/tW 10:01am 94:50 -sh
jmotz pts/tX 9:36am167:15 -sh
jmotz pts/tY 10:02am166:49 -sh
dvan pts/tZ 7:23am 97:29 -sh
vsanjose pts/t1 8:17pm 36:34 -sh
jmotz pts/t2 12:09pm 92:42 -sh
dvan pts/t3 7:31am241:20 -sh
dvan pts/t4 7:33am241:18 -sh
jmotz pts/t5 11:43am 69:09 -sh
jmotz pts/t6 11:16am117:35 -sh
jmotz pts/t7 11:29am117:22 -sh
nmcc123 pts/t8 12:21pm116:29 -sh
root pts/0 8:49am 1 /sbin/sh

Shalom,

It doesn't matter why the sessions are not cleared.

increase nstrtel to a higher level, compile your kernel or let sam do it for you.

insf -e to create more device files and move on.

SEP
