Hello Experts,

the version of sendmail running on the server is 8.9.3 which is very old. can we upgrade the sendmail to 8.13.3 version. Do you guys think, it will resolve all these issues if we will upgrade it?

waiting for your response.

Thanks,
Pankaj Roy

Shalom,

Few things:
You need either an smtp relay server (DJ directive in sendmail.cf) or the ability to resolve host names and send outbound mail on port 25 to actually send mail.

This problem would appear to come from a lack of the ability to do that or properly identify your server to the receiving server.

Most sendmail servers that accept mail are configured to at least check that the sender is coming from a domain name that can be looked up.

http://www.sendmail.org to learn more on the topic.

SEP

Are we trying to figure out why we cannot send from serverA or why serverB will not receive ?

the sendmail daemon does NOT need to be running in order to send mail.

it does need to be configured either in inetd or as a daemon process in order to receive.

Can you send mail to anywhere else ?
