the "print_manifest" command will give you brief description of your system info or "machinfo" command for integrity system

or you can use command

#uname -a (for OS info)

#model

Hello,

What is the best way for me to identify the
current HP-UX system that Iam having? Or is there any article or link on this? I am currently using RX 2660, have a HP-UX running but not sure on the system configurations and HP-UX versions.

Thanks

The obvious methods have been posted so I'll just skip those....

You mention identifying the system and not specifically system name.

SysInfo and cfg2html are utilities that will give you lots of information besides system name.

Also if you have Ignite on your system it comes with a "print_manifest" command. I like it because it can list how your system was originally setup as well as the current information.

The number one, but not recommended, method of identifying a system is

*drum roll please*

Shut it down

You'll soon be surrounded by a multitude of pleasant people telling you:
- Exactly what the system is for
- The systems name
- and ; Different variations of your own name :)

Cheers
Alternatively, you could use the sysinfo utility to gather information about the system. Same can be located at

http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Sysadmin/alpha.html

It can be run online and will not cause system overhead as nickel does.

I can't top Kevin's "shutdown" answer, he hit the nail on the head ... I'm still laughing. But if you want to keep your job, you should probably stick with uname -a and model.. My favorite information gather tool is cfg2html and I would suggest you download it ... it's free. Run it and save the txt and html files off to your PC. If you ever have a disaster, you need to recover from, that information will come in really handy.
