Hi,

I am facing problem in accessing the SMH on my 11.23 machine. This is what happens:

1) From windows IE7 host -> http://hostname:2301
2) Execute "ps -ef | grep smh" as below output.
3) Browser display page could not be displayed.
4) Ping successful from host to server and vice versa.

# ps -ef | grep smh

Hi Ivan,

Thanks for the link. I suppose SMH alrady started from my "ps" command output. And I guess something else is missing which Im not sure what. I tried to grep for "http" but it does not show any. Invoke below:

smhstartconfig -a on
smhstartconfig -t on

But still to no avail. Any idea?

Hi,

I finally found the error from
/var/opt/hpsmh/logs/smh.log

It says:

httpd: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 192.168.1.10 for ServerName

Checked my /etc/hosts and /etc/rc.config.d/netconf entries are fine.

Any help?

i think you are accessing the smh from windows using the URL address htt://:2301

but this may cause to load the smh. try to use IP

http://:2301

this may cause of your dns entry of your unix hostname in DNS

Hi Ahsan,

I was actually already using IP address in the URL: http://192.168.1.10:2301 from my Windows. Below are my IP settings.

Windows host: 192.168.1.20
HP-UX: 192.168.1.10

68.1.20 for ServerName
/opt/hpsmh/bin/hpsmh[179]: 12927 Bus error

Not sure what it means. Please enlighten.

I assume this is fine.

What's on line 179 of hpsmh?

Looks like a bug. You may want to try this SMH patch: PHSS_36870

if you have DNS in your network and your laptop is part of your DNS, then add and entry in your DNS of this HP-UX box. for this you can consult with your windows administrator.

if you do so, you may able to connect SMH as you mentioned.i.e.

http://hostname:2301

Hi,

Iam not using DNS right now and all IPs are static. BTW "swlist SysMgmtWeb"
gives me below:

I read somewhere that this version does not require the patch indicated previously. I continue with upgrading to the latest SMH A.2.2.8 but still got the same error. The strange error message is the "Bus Error" which I simply can't find from HP resources what it is.

Yes, A.2.2.7 replaces the patch.

A Bus error is a miscellaneous software bug.

Again: What's on line 179 of hpsmh? This will tell us what program is aborting.

Sorry was bit blurr just now. I suppose its looking for line 179 of /opt/hpsmh/lbin/hpsmh. Well this is what it shows with line numbers. Dont quite undestand what this script does.

It looks like smhstart is aborting.
See if you can run it by hand. (Not sure why that eval is there?)

I have tried to re-start the SMH manually but system still shows error. See below.

# hpsmh autostart
Starting the System Management HomePage server ...
Pid 12927 in trap loop, signal 10
ERROR: The System Management HomePage server could not be started successfully.

Any help please.

Probably time to call the Response Center.
You get this if you have blocked signal 10 and then get another one in your signal handler.
