Configure IGNITE Server

OK, here is what i have.

RP8420 with two cell boards (NPAR).

1 cell board has DVD attached so, according to HP i cannot boot off the DVD to load the other.

Is this true

LAN0 and LAN 1 have IPS on different switches for cell 0 and cell 1.

LAN 0 is on 159.17.98.XX address on both cell boards.

LAN1 is on 159.17.99.XX addresses on both cell boards.

there is also two MPconnections that are on the 159.17.79.99 for cell board 1 and 159.17.79.100 for cell board 0.

OK, I can login to the MP lan on the 100 address but, not the 99 address...should I be able to do this?

Secondly, how can i get ignite to boot the second cell board?

I just want to clarify:

You have 2 nPars, each with one cell board.
One nPar has the DVD but the other doesn't so you want to Ignite boot it. Each have 2 NICs (lan0 and lan1) defined on different subnets.

Answer on the MP: only one MP lan port is active on a complex. This one should allow you to get to the console of either nPar.

A followup question on the Ignite server: do you have a golden image setup already? Are you on the same subnet?

In general though you should be able to boot to your (lan0) NIC and Ignite should answer.

ANSWER YES.....

A followup question on the Ignite server: do you have a golden image setup already? Are you on the same subnet?

ANSWER NO Golden Image just a core OS built frm the CDROM.

In general though you should be able to boot to your (lan0) NIC and Ignite should answer.

How do i boot to lan0 nic of the host I want to ignite?

So, the IP addresses for ignite should not be on the MP subnet?

Get to the EFI boot menu.
Choose Boot maintenance options
Boot from file
choose the lan0 NIC

It can be but it is irrelevant of the Ignite boot. The partition will try to boot from a NIC available to the future OS.

From the MP Menu, assuming you have powered the partition, choose the Console for the applicable partition.

You should be at an EFI menu or shell. If you are at the shell, type exit so you are back at the menu.

It should look something like this:

Please select a boot option

EFI Shell [Built-in]
Boot option maintenance menu

Use ^ and v to change option(s). Use Enter to select an option
******************************************

From there follow the instructions I listed above.

I am not familiar with the terminology...

I can get here:

or to the MP but never heard of EFI.

Ensure the Core I/O NIC (lan0) is connected to the network and try this:

boot lan.n.n.n.n install

(Above gotten from the Ignite Admin Edition 30 manual on page 115)

I have been doing that.

I have ensured the LAN cable is connected.

I will try to have them move the LAN cables around.

Be sure that lan0 is on the same subnet as the Ignite server.

Then you can try:
search lan install
and see if anything answers.

You did both above and still get no answer, it is time to verify the Ignite server.

When you "boot lan.IP.of.ignite.server install" what do you get ?

FYI,
You must configure the ignite server /etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab for DHCP service to your new host.

Ignite server must be on same subnet or create a boot helper CD.( recommended as ignite DHCP is a pain sometimes)

Once ignite installer comes up, make changes, and GO.

When npar1 is completed get back to console for nPar2, rinse and repeat.
