On both servers these 3 should be in their own Oracle LV:

You should create a new LV for /oracle. There should NEVER be anything other than basic OS stuff in '/'. Having /oracle there is VERY BAD practice.

Rather than providing us with a listing of everything on your system, why don't you provide a 'bdf (1m)' so that we may see your mountpoints.

I second the "NEED MORE INFO".

Cannot tell from you posting if any directories are filesystem mountpoints.

Please post bdf output.

If the /oracle*, /crystal, /jasperrreport are NOT mount points they need to be moved to such.

Everything else MUST stay as part of / filesystem.

How big is your .mozilla directory? I guess it is less than 10 Mb, the last one listed.

#ls -al, you might finding some things that you can remove.Checkout any core file generated under / or /dev,if yes you can remove the same.

I really agree with your above findings that /oracle should not be there on os lv.But if "/" is getting and if you release some space from oracle LV, it won't help you out for "/" area.You need to look in core / or /dev area.I went though these scinario here on my site.

You should look some core or old crash files so that you can remove them or extend your /
if you have enough space in vg00

Extending is not a good practice to go with. You should follow some cleaning practice and moving specific data to dedicated lvol.
Basically / should be static, application writing to / should moved to there dedicated dirs. Trimming log files, crash files can help you.

Hiall,
Thanks for your respond and recommendation.
I have checked with the application vendor and they did put the oracle folder at root directory and now cannot turning back as the report will create the log file there.
One way to maintain the space is by removing some log file in this directory.

You can write a script which copies these log files to some other location ( for example at /var/adm/crash) on daily basis and then nullify the log files under root. So these files will not consume lot of space on root and at the same time you have a backup of log file, just in case oracle guys need them.
