Cold install help

I am migrating hpux server from PA RISC based server (L3000) to blade server, for that I have to do a cold install of the OS. I dont have much experience with cold install of the OS like what products I need to select when installing. Is there any way, I can find that out what have been installed on the current server and then select the same products and services when doing the fresh install on the new blade server.

The cold install is pretty simple. On the software page there is a limited ( maybe 10 items) that can be deselected. Others have dependancies that you will have to keep.

As far as a comparison. swlist -l bundle.

If you find a product that was selected that you do not want you can always swremove it after install ( if it is not a dependancy of another product you want ).

You don't say what release, but I suggest that you read the Installation and Update guide for the release you are installing. Cold installations are straightfoward.

Like the other posters said, a cold install is pretty simple, just follow the wizard and select/deselect those apps you want. If I recall correctly, after you boot from CD/DVD, you'll need to select "Advanced" or "Custom" mode in the install options window to get into the various other screens to input or change what gets installed along with other parameters you can change, such as volume sizes, etc..

As for your L3000, run the cmd print_manifest and pipe it to a file. It gives you a complete breakdown of your system such as disks, volume layout/sizes, apps and patches installed, etc.. Note that the apps listing in this output are only those that are installed as a HP depot type of installation. Other apps that run their own installers for example Oracle, don't show up. You'll need to dig into the file system to see what else may be installed.
