Need to purchase Auto Port Aggregation (APA) software. About $1000 or so.

This will all you to create LAN aggregates or trunks utilizing 2 or more NICs. Beware that some of the load balance algorithms may not give you a 50-50 balance. The LB_MAC algorithm uses the source or destination MAC, in a switched environment with a backup going to a single source may not speed that session up, it will give greater bandwidth for additional sessions though.

Another option may be to go to Gig-Ether in your environment ( maybe you already have it ) or dedicate a LAN to backups and the other LAN to user traffic.

I have 2 interfaces on the same subnet. But only one is heavily used for backups and is choking while the other is almost idle. I want to ensure that both are evenly used.

The NIC is a 2-port card.

How do I enable trunking on 11.23?
You need to use Auto Port Aggregation software. Using this, you will be able to combine one or more interfaces into a single interface to provide load balancing and failover.

for more info:
http://docs.hp.com/en/J4240-90041/index.html

http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=J4240AA

Depending on the switch you have connected these interfaces to, you will need to enable LACP (link aggregation control protocol) for those ports.

Another note maybe it is obvious, but the switch gear involved must also support aggregates/trunking.

( I should stop assuming ).
