Hello.

How can I start sfmdb service?

I have two twin rx6600 servers with the same software, configuration and services started.

On one node,
ps -ef | grep sfm
gives nothing.

A try of starting the service manualy failes:

host1:/root#/sbin/init.d/sfmdb start
host1:/root#

syslog isn't very helpful:
host1:/root#tail /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
Sep 22 14:36:17 host1 su: + 2 root-sfmdb

In the same time, second node shows this service running:
host2:/root#ps -ef | grep sfm
sfmdb 2475 2474 0 Sep 1 ? 0:00 postgres: stats collector process
sfmdb 2471 1 0 Sep 1 ? 0:08 /opt/sfmdb/pgsql/bin/postmaster -i -D /var/opt/sfmdb/pgsql
sfmdb 2729 2471 0 Sep 1 ? 0:00 postgres: sfmdb LOGDB [local] idle
sfmdb 2474 2471 0 Sep 1 ? 0:00 postgres: stats buffer process
sfmdb 10505 2471 0 Sep 5 ? 0:00 postgres: sfmdb LOGARCHDB [local] idle
sfmdb 4801 2471 0 Sep 1 ? 0:00 postgres: sfmdb LOGDB [local] idle

ll /sbin/init.d/sfmdb

Make sure the service is installed and the start script exists.

SKR, Steven: thanks for your help.

In my case, I had following situation:

/sbin/init.d/sfmdb start
tail sfmdb.log:
postmaster successfully started
FATAL: could not read lock file "/var/opt/sfmdb/pgsql/postmaster.pid": File exists
But no postmaster is running.

so
root# rm /var/opt/sfmdb/pgsql/postmaster.pid
was enough, starting sfmdb become possible.
