      <title>cannot start sfmdb</title>

      <description>Hello.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;How can I start sfmdb service?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I have two twin rx6600 servers with the same software, configuration and services started.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;On one node, &lt;BR /&gt;ps -ef | grep sfm &lt;BR /&gt;gives nothing.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;A try of starting the service manualy failes:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;host1:/root#/sbin/init.d/sfmdb start&lt;BR /&gt;host1:/root#&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;syslog isn't very helpful:&lt;BR /&gt;host1:/root#tail /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log&lt;BR /&gt;Sep 22 14:36:17 host1 su: + 2 root-sfmdb&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;In the same time, second node shows this service running:&lt;BR /&gt;host2:/root#ps -ef | grep sfm&lt;BR /&gt;   sfmdb  2475  2474  0  Sep  1  ?         0:00 postgres: stats collector process&lt;BR /&gt;   sfmdb  2471     1  0  Sep  1  ?         0:08 /opt/sfmdb/pgsql/bin/postmaster -i -D /var/opt/sfmdb/pgsql&lt;BR /&gt;   sfmdb  2729  2471  0  Sep  1  ?         0:00 postgres: sfmdb LOGDB [local] idle&lt;BR /&gt;   sfmdb  2474  2471  0  Sep  1  ?         0:00 postgres: stats buffer process&lt;BR /&gt;   sfmdb 10505  2471  0  Sep  5  ?         0:00 postgres: sfmdb LOGARCHDB [local] idle&lt;BR /&gt;   sfmdb  4801  2471  0  Sep  1  ?         0:00 postgres: sfmdb LOGDB [local] idle&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;regards, Julian</description>

      <description>SKR, Steven: thanks for your help.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;In my case, I had following situation:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;/sbin/init.d/sfmdb start&lt;BR /&gt;tail sfmdb.log:&lt;BR /&gt;postmaster successfully started&lt;BR /&gt;FATAL:  could not read lock file "/var/opt/sfmdb/pgsql/postmaster.pid": File exists&lt;BR /&gt;But no postmaster is running.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;so &lt;BR /&gt;root# rm /var/opt/sfmdb/pgsql/postmaster.pid&lt;BR /&gt;was enough, starting sfmdb become possible.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;regards, Julian Kania&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
