11i system does occational hangs

Hi
I have a L2000 with HP-UX 11i (11.11 upgraded from 11.0) and GOLDQPK June 2001.

What happens quite often (every ten to fifteen minutes or so) is that the server seems to be hanging. Telnet sessions against it seems to freeze while I'm typing.
After some 10 -20 sec it resolves the situation and everything is back to normal.
Text typed during the "freeze" suddely appers in the session.

What is this, and how / where should I start looking for errors?

The syslog says nothing.

Sounds like a networking issue.
Do you see those hangs from the console.

I'd take a look at netstat -nr, make sure everything looks right.
Also make sure the settings on your NIC and your switch are in sync. Use lanadmin to verify the settings on the server.
Make sure autonegotiation is off on the NIC and with switch (if you're using one).

Try keeping an eye on EMS activity and see if there is any correlation ? Just a thought ......

I am not sure but still...
looks like some applications consuming system resource more. try upgrading the system.

You need to look at the Sept 2001 release for 11i.

Might add that I have a similar server (that is Cold Installed though) and it is behaving well.

These are development servers and are running idle nearly constant.

There have been some problems with upgrades to 11i and the June2001 patch bundles. I would install the Sep2001 QPK bundle and then the HWCR bundle. I think theres a pretty good chance that will fix it.

Hi again
The system hung completely this weekend, thus changing my agenda somewhat.
When tryng to boot thru GSP, I got an Disk error mesg in th GSP error log.
Shut the system completely down and powered off, and checked the disks was proberly seated, and booted again, and this time the system startet up again.

Is the disk failing on me here?

Have run a disk exercise in STM without finding any errors.

I will now do the Sept 2001 patching and will see what happens next.
