    <description>Hi Mike:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The manpages note that 'uname -i' will return the nodename in the event that the machine ID number can't be returned.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Try:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# getconf CS_MACHINE_IDENT&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;...this should be the machine ID returned by 'uname -i'.  If this is empty, did you recently have an engineer replace a system board?  Was 'ssconfig' run by the engineer?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards!&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;...JRF...&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>When running the command: uname -i to obtain the hostid for the server, it returns the hostname of the server...&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;root@tmcpoc01:[/root]:&lt;BR /&gt;=&amp;gt;uname -i&lt;BR /&gt;tmcpoc01&lt;BR /&gt;root@tmcpoc01:[/root]:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Why would this return the hostname and how do I find the true servers hostid ??</description>

      <description>BTW, most servers build this ID based on product- and serial number. Older entry level models store these values on the system board only, newer systems have it on different locations and will synchronize the values after a hardware replacement (like modern PCs and notebooks too).&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You can manually force these settings in various ways, depending on the hardware.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;But, if the value is not correct set or sync has failed for any reason, you won't have a valid ID.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Note: non-cell based HP9000 servers are different to non-cell based Integrites, cell-based systems are different again.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;;-)</description>

      <description>Did you replace the MP by chance?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If you did, the new MP did not grab the values from the other MP and/or cells.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Note: If you replace the MP, the system should be down but still powered on.</description>

      <description>Anyway, you may try to shutdown the OS, keep the unit powered, remove the master (lower) MP, wait some minutes, push it back, wait some minutes and check the ID command again.</description>
