there seems to be more than one way to do this. i thought i needed to take the target partition down and run parmodify from another npar in the complex with the -B arg and that would cause the target partition to boot. but from looking at that link/command it would appear that i can parmodify the target whilst on the target and then shutdown -R and let the HP ce add the hardware and then on boot it would rendevouz. yes?
.
thanks bernard...much appreciate.

hello, can someone give me the syntax to add memory to an npar?
.
i am also adding a cpu at the same time. does it matter which order as i don't want to have to reboot to many times.
.
cheers!

Are you sure you are talking about a nPar here?

Generally you don't add "some memory" or "a CPU" to a nPar - you add "one or more cell boards" to a nPar, and you have to add all the CPUs and all the memory on the cell board(s) as well. Typically the only way you add "a CPU" to a nPar is if you are using iCAP and you already have a inactive core with usage rights in the nPar.

So are you sure we are talking about nPars and not vPars?

HTH

Duncan

hi duncan,
.
i found the online npar admin guide and read it. i realise that a "cpu" or memory are referred to as "cells" so from what i understand i can add the cpu using the parmodify command and when the memory is added to the partition in question it will rendevouz when the partition is booted. is correct?

If you are using nPars, then when you add a cell to a partition, it will rendevouz at boot time, and add in all cpu's, memory and any I/O connected to the cell.

Take a look here for examples:
http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1277934
