Hi,
If I have an existing installation of 11iv3, and need some of the functionality that is only available in 11iv3 Sep 2008 or later, do I have to reinstall from scratch, or will installing the latest support pack (ie, Sep 2008) bring me to the same level?

Do these updated releases contain functionality that can only be obtained from a reinstall?

The update process for what I call maintenance releases works well. I tested on 4 different servers 2 different times without error.

(if this was update from 11iv2 to 11iv3 I would say cold install ).

I think others will respond the same in both cases.

As always, be sure to either use DRD or Ignite or both as a precautionary backout/recovery measure.

BTW, the date releases of the OS do no always contain the patches up to that date, I found it was best to also install the latest QPK bundle for that date as well. e.g. QPK from Sep. 2008 ( if there is one for that quarter as well ) or at least run the analysis on last QPK just to be sure you get the latest.

What functionality is only in Sep 2008 ? Just curious.

Some features are new, for example LVM 2.1.

Take a backup and then use update_ux.

>What functionality is only in Sep 2008 ? Just curious.

I am looking at some of the online vgmodify features which are apparently only available in Sep 08 onwards.

Thanks for the info...will take ignite images before I do the update.
