gui alternatives

I have HP-UX 11iv1 and despite all the concern of not having a new OS to work with, I have brought it up-to-date with the software inventory tool swainv and find that there appear to be some GUI alternatives for common command line tasks via SAM. Ignite even has it's own GUI. Life is good. Below are some useful commands that I would like to find GUI alternatives for. I know of the full list here http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-60127/index.html but don't need every command Any assistance in finding the corresponding GUI for to the most common commands are greatly appreciated. I have listed a few I know to use.

#ignite - brings up gui
#mkdir - file manager (how would I bring it up)?
#swinstall - brings up a GUI
#swcopy - no GUI?
#swpackage - GUI?
#sh filename - GUI alternative to executing a file with sh ?
#tar - GUI options would be great for all the compressions.
#gzip
#unzip
#zip
#ioscan - GUI options would be useful for this
#diskinfo - this too?
#shutdown --....
#swlist
#du
#ls
#cd
#bdf

I assume CDE might have such a thing.

It has a GUI.

No GUI needed. I don't know about Software Package Builder

Why would you need this?

#tar - GUI options would be great for all the compressions.

tar(1) doesn't have that many options.

#gzip #unzip #zip

Using a command line with patterns is more powerful.

#shutdown

Not needed and you are shutting down.

#swlist

I'm not sure why you want a GUI here?

Just Launch CDE, and try doing things from the xwindows, not the best i should say..

Hi,

most admins of unix like systems don't like GUIs, but prefer the CLI.

Anyway, there are GUIs for many tasks.

Examples:

- filemanager: /usr/dt/bin/dtfile
- swlist: swlist -i
- diagnostics: xstm

Alternatively you may consider to use the system management homepage SMH.

Point your browser to the server, port# 2301.
