Issue in finding the disk on k class server.

I unable to find the disks which is associated with vg01.Looks like there should be a enclosure connected with that. Since this a k-class server(9000/869/K420). Kindly find the attachment for more analyze.

Hi Karthik,

There should be some external disk enclosure which lost the communication with the server.

See the entry from syslog

Check the HBA which is connected to the enclosure or power status of the enclosure.

Unless those disks are accessible by ioscan you will not be able to use the VG.

Shalom,

vg01 is a scsi attached JBOD(Just a Bunch Of Disks). Undoubtedly connected to a scsi card on the system.

Take a look at the system physically for such a connection.

The "c0" of the device files of the missing disks and the "10/0.X.0" of the seagate disks show that these were attached to the core i/o SCSI port which is a continuation of the internal disk cage. So there is or was an external disk enclosure connected there. What exactly do you mean by "unable to find the disks"? Aren't at the server site or have anybody there to check?

If there is a problem with SCSI controller...i hope i will be receiving a error message on either syslog or dmesg...i don't see any errors on both...and my ioscan shows all r functional. I pleasure to provide u the log infos if u required any....

Hi Karthik,

This is not SCSI controller problem. See the previous post by TTr.

The external disk enclosure is connected with core i/o scsi port along with internal disks. This is what we could understand from the ioscan output.

So I would suspect the external scsi cable which is connected from server to disk enclosure. Or the disk enclosure itself is not powered on or not ready.

Check the external scsi cable or the disk enclosure.

Are there disks connected to the SCSI core i/o in the back of the server? If not, there were disks and someone removed them without deleting them from LVM first. If yes, you need to check why the server does not see them. Check if they are powered off, the SCSI cable is pulled off or it is bad etc.

did you try: vgchange -a y /dev/vg01.
or chack if the information about this vg are still in your /dev/dsk and /dev/rdsk directories.
