error while giving bdf

while giving bdf i am getting following error i am# bdf
bdf: Cannot open /etc/mnttab: Permission denied running bdf from root user

permi# ls -ltr /etc/mnttab
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1737 Dec 7 23:17 /etc/mnttab

# ls -ltr /usr/bin/bdf
-r-sr-xr-x 1 root bin 42380 Mar 26 2004 /usr/bin/bdf

i am able to do ioscan -fnC disk it shows correct output without error
