Hi Friends,

How many Physical volume we can create?

How many Volum Group we can create?

How many Logical volume we can create?

How many Phsical extent is in a single volume group?

How many logical extent is in a single logical volume?

Pls anyone guide me step by step.

Hi Unixguy,

That depends on the OS version(or LVM ver) you used. The latest version LVM2.x(only supported in 11.31)overrides lot of limitations with old LVM1.x(supported on 11.11 and 11.23)

Here is the details in a glance of LVM1.x

How many Physical volume we can create?
Default 16 / Min 1 / Max 255 (in a VG)

How many Volum Group we can create?
Default 10 / Min 0 / Max 256

How many Logical volume we can create?
Default 255 / Min 1 / Max 255 (in a VG)

How many Phsical extent is in a single volume group?
Default 1016 / Min 1 / Max 655355 (in a VG)

How many logical extent is in a single logical volume?
Default 1016 / Min 1 / Max 655355 (in a LV depends on LV size)

up to 2048

up to 2047 per vg

How many Physical extent is in a single volume group?

up to 2^25

Max Logical extent and Physical extent size is 655355 or 65535

It is typo error. 65535 will be the maximum physical extends per PV. It is not physical extend size.

Physical extend size:
Min:1MB Default:4MB Max:256MB

My sincere apologize for the typo error..
