Hi,

I've asked this question before, got some answers, (didn't assign points, yeah, me, the one that tells the others to do so), and lost the thread.

I have about 15 HPs around, all of them old and very old workstations, from 9000/7xx to Visualise (yeah, the top is c360), all running HPUX 11.00.

The company doesn't have the budget for buying HP SD (which I know it is somehow obsolete by HPUX 11i, the license I mean) (and I know about the patch for 11.00 to use facilities of 11i on this issue) so I want to fake one.

The best part is I don't have too much space on the HPs so I can't even place all HPUX software depots I need on one of them. This would make the job more easier.

I am just asking for suggestion, I am going to write a script which will automate the mounting of a nfs directory from a linux server, directory which helds the depots. Then, list all software there and ask which one should be registered and installed locally. After installation, unregister it, umount the partition and farewell.

What do you think, is this too ugly to be called even 'workaround'? Should I better breath deeply and start to learn how to harmless patch an existing machine to act as a SD site?

Long post with not so much interest but I will appreciate your answers.

E.

Hi,

One thing I would like to suggest is
to create bootable CD's, but you would
still need to purchase a HP CD burner
to do the job. Here is the link to
the manual. Have a look in chapter 10.

HTH
-Michael

PS: I think James keeps his own database
Hi Eugen,

I don't know how James finds the threads but here's how I found it:

Go to http://search.hp.com/ and search for "+eugen +depot". It came back with 2 hits. Incidently, the + means to require the word.

There's been a problem lately with the ITRC search but if you choose "search all of hp.com" (the link above) you should have better results. I've basically given up on the ITRC search until it gets fixed.

Darrell
