      <description>root user is able to ftp to my server. I need to create a user that is able to ftp as well and need guidance. I have created the user and this user is able to sftp.</description>

      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;By default, all the users will be given ftp access unless the users is explicitely mentioned in /etc/ftpd/ftpusers file.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Also make sure the user's shell is listed in /etc/shells</description>

      <description>Shalom,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Any user created on the system has ftp/sftp privileges.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You can limit access depending on shell choice and other configuration.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;SEP</description>

It is just a ascii file which you can create manually.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;you should have specified a user login shell in /etc/password. Put the same login shell in /etc/shells also.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You can create a /etc/shells file and put the following entries..&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# more /etc/shells&lt;BR /&gt;/sbin/sh&lt;BR /&gt;/usr/bin/sh&lt;BR /&gt;/usr/bin/rsh&lt;BR /&gt;/usr/bin/ksh&lt;BR /&gt;/usr/bin/csh&lt;BR /&gt;/usr/bin/false&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Login to the server&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;# cat /etc/passwd| grep slubbe &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Add that shell in /etc/shells&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Its better you create a /etc/shells files and add the lines as told by Mr. Ganesh above.</description>
