what questions to be asked during Knowledge Transfer?

Hi

I am going to get Knowledge Transfer for a server. The follwoing service running such as samba, NFS, NIS+. so what are questions we have to ask for each service. pls explain me service by service.

I would first suggest you define what a knowledge transfer is concerning a server. Its not a term I have seem applied that way.

Do you wish to transfer a service from one system to the next?

during transfer of knowledge, you should ask all critical question that are site specific and involve any customization like:
-past history of critical issues
-ports used by applications and processes
-location of all the applications
-passwords
-level of auditing and security
-any customization that is out of norm etc.

Along with solution in which situation what need to be check or what step need to be done.

Very Challenging concepts in the "IT world"

It needs also verse vice chracter like

comitment, tranpranent ,between knowledge

transfer between two persons.

well, related to mentined Services are running in the Server <
1.samba,

what is the samba version.?
were are configuration for samba files located?
how to start and stop samba if got some issues.? what are the know problem, trouble shooting documents.?

2. NFS,

Configuration details for NFS,
what are NFS client and their NFS share File system or NFS mount points trouble shooting documents.?

3. NIS +
(I would also like to have some basic concepts about NIS & NFS before i ask some Question.

Hi,

I would apart from the technical side approach the process part as well,

Things like:

- The history of incidents and changes applied in past year(s)
- Backups available , what, where , how
- Who (else) has access, will it only be you
- Documentation up to date (with emphasize on UP TO DATE) , and where is it.
- Transition period after the knowledge transfer (In case you have questions)
- Review meeting after Transition period

As KT you should get

Complete SOP (software operating procedure) from startup to shutdown.

Complete architecure of server, dependencies, faced issue with action taken, Application running on the server. Daily task on the server.

Backup policy, Patch upgradation policy both server and application, take the output of nickel script of currently running server.
