Assuming you are talking disk controllers that may require additional software.

Please state the level of the OS and clarify what option software you have installed.

If we are talking let's say HBA with disks in a san, and you whan't to load balance the IO between you HBAs, you have a load of different options.

If you have 11v3 you have no problem beacuse it's incluided in the IO stack and done trasparently to the user.

If you are on 11v1,v2 you have:

Multipath software that you have to install to load balance like:

powerpath (emc)
sdd (for ibm storage)
etc ..

and you can allways use lvm pvlinks:
