hehehe, I don't see a difference either :))
But nevertheless I get the point ;-)

The problem is a difference in character sets, on the unix box you are using an evenly-spaced character set, whilst on your PC you are not. I suppose Animesh's answer solves your problem.

good luck,
Thierry.

Hi,

I am writing a script to send an email from hpux to microsoft OUTLOOK. However when I open the e-mail using microsoft OUTLOOK, the document format has changed.

I am using the following command

cat $EMESSAGE | mailx -s"$SUBJECT" email@datacom.com

The original $EMESSAGE file look like this :

Database Name Type of Backup
--------------------------------
CHDSDY online/offline
DISD1F offline
GISD2B offline
GIST1K onlineline
LISD1M onlineline
RISDEVX offline
SDWD1K offline
SRISDE offline

But when I open the email in OUTLOOK,

Database Name Type of Backup
---------------------
CHDSDY online/offline
DISD1F offline
GISD2B offline
GIST1K onlineline
LISD1M onlineline
RISDEVX offline
SDWD1K offline
SRISDE offline

Is there a way to make sure the file format doesn't change when open in OUTLOOK

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I not sure somehow the output format have changed once I submit my questions. The columns from the original file on HP_UX should be in fixed length and the second sample ouput should look as what has been posted in my question.

Anyway I seem that both Animesh and Thierry understand what I am trying to asked and thanks both of you.
