Hi

How does this new method, SWA ease the previous way of patching servers? I mean previously I dwld patches from the quarterly bundles on the ITRC. I was thinking that in having this swa_analysis.xml file, I will be able to upload it, then it will be able to retrieve all the relevant patches for me in 1 glance.

Now it looks to me that I need to scroll thru the xml file to see which patch is relevant.

Please advice. Did I misunderstand any?

For all features of SWA your server must be able to access the internet or swa must be integrated in HPSIM.

Without internet, you need to collect the patches manually.

If I am going to make use of this swa_analysis.xml file, can I say that I just need to dwld those PH* patches and depot ids? How about those issue ids?

Or should I just follow my previous way, dwld quarterly dec patches since my HP-UX versions are 11.11 and 11.23 ?

Please advice.

From your HP-UX system is there any other system running any operating system that has internet access?

If so, then you could use a command of the form:

# swa report -x download_cmd="ssh user@remoteSystem /opt/perl/bin/GET"

You can replace that with a shell script of any complexity you need and of course a number of utilities such as curl or wget could be used in place of perl.

That same option is supported with the "get" major mode for building a depot.

If you do not have any chain of systems that will give you access, you can upload your inventory file to the ITRC patch database and run an assessment. Just use the command "/opt/swa/lbin/swainv" to create the file inventory.xml.
