Hi,

When I try to run swlist I get following error.

newport # swlist -l product | grep sw

ERROR: The expected depot or root does not exist at "/".

ERROR: There is currently no installed software on host "newport" at location "/". (Note that you need to use "swlist -d" to manage depot software).

To resolve this I have tried following things:

- Restarted swagentd deamon.

- I also make sure that ???swlist??? is not alias to ???swlsit ???d???

I don???t know if the missing PRODUCTS directory under /var/adm/sw can cause this types of problems.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,

Mike
Hi Mike:

"missing products directory" ?!?

If this is missing, you have one very serious problem! Do you have an Ignite recovery tape?

Regards!

...JRF...

If ANY directories are missing under /var/adm/sw/.... then you will have serious problems. The swlist problem is probably just the beginning. If there is no products directory, you probably won't be able to install any new software or patches either.

If you were trying to free up space in /var, that was a bad way to do it.

As an FYI - to free up space in /var, you should ALWAYS use the 'cleanup' utility.

Hi Mike,

The Missing directory from /var/adm/sw could be a reason.

Try this if it helps.

quote //

Perform one of the following steps to resolve your error:
A. 1. De-select 'All targets to resolve source locally' for that session.
2. Re-start swagentd.

--OR--

B. 1. Edit the '/var/adm/sw/defaults' file by commenting out the following entry:
swinstall.use_alternate_source= true
2. Re-start swagentd.

//enquote

hope this helps.

Regds

Hi,

No, I was not tying to free up the space and I have tried all the options. I was hopping some one has easy answer to this problem, look like no easy way out. I think I don???t have any choice other then going to recovery tape or restore. The (dam) developers.

Thanks for quick response guys.

Mike
