there are few posibilities for this msg, please let me know below,
how you are shuting down this server?
are you using root acount? or any NIS account which having sudo access?

after this msg are you able to shutdown server? let me know thanks,

as root - did shutdown -h now

so you are able to shutdown this server with error msg.

this server is part of your NIS?

Please try this before shutdown server and then apply shutdown command

Try this:

# /sbin/init.d/nfs.server stop
# /sbin/init.d/autofs stop
# /sbin/init.d/nfs.client stop
# /sbin/init.d/lockmgr stop
# /sbin/init.d/nfs.core stop
