HI admins,

how to set timeout in /etc/progile file.I need to set the same with 60 seconds.

export TMOUT=60

insert it into /etc/profile

Hi,

You can put this way also in your .profile
export TMOUT=60

or

TMOUT=60
export $TMOUT

Hi:

If you want to establish a timeout that cannot be overridden by the user, use this in the '/etc/profile' for Posix and Korn shells:

# readonly TMOUT=60;export TMOUT

Remember that the timeout begins only when the shell is at the PS1 prompt.

as JRF noted, this only applies when a user is sitting at the command prompt. If they are idle in an application or shell script, its not going to work.
