Hi all,

I am not able to login to my HP server, I am getting login prompt but i am not prompted for password, please help its a Cell Manager and all backups has been stopped.

Are you at the system console ?
Do you have root login capability from the console ?
You know, no one can work miracles from the little information you provided. You, not getting a prompt for password might have hundreds of different causes.

Hardware model ?
hpux version ?
method of connection ? (ssh ? telnet ?)
root or regular user ?
when did you first notice this symptom ?
when was the last major change (like patching or kernel modifications, new hardware addition, etc.) to your system and since then have you ever been able to login ?

Dear,

Please check out with all the network connections to the server.By which method you are trying to log into the server please mention it.

Hi friend thanks,

my system is ia64 hp server rx2620
I am not able to ssh my server, but I can login to console, whenever i ssh my server, it asks for username but after inserting username, it hangs.

Please log into the console as root.

dmesg

check /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

/sbin/init.d/secsh stop
/sbin/init.d/secsh start

Is it just for your login? Or is it all logins? Any modifications made to the profiles? Any other changes made? You say you can login on console but not your workstation - have you tried a different workstation to login from?

capture the debug output and post here please

How about other methods like telnet, rlogin?

is the server busy with some tasks? You can check the server utilisation on console if you are able to login?

If you have issue with only ssh connection, restart the ssh service.

Is there any nfs disk mounted to this server. If the mount is failed, then it takes a long time to get password prompt too.
