Thanks Torsten, what about..

"There is no date against HPUXBaseOS so I'm assuming you don't update that with update-ux it stays as is?? "

For a VM upgrade we are carrying out we are required to update HPUX to 0712 as a minimum. the requirement isnt specific about what is actually required to be updated? We installed SWA and applied all recommendations but this didn't do the trick and we failed the update.

Should SWA pick this up? How do get to the required level?

I think you are about to update the host from whatever to 11.23 december 2007 - backup, insert the DVD and use "update-ux".

To use update-ux you have to know what you require as far as I'm aware? What is it that makes a system at least 07-12. Presumably the media for that date and then following that which specifically is it that updates HPUX to that level?

SWA required us to apply over 200 patches and updates including 2 very big quality packs (Base and Apps) which we were lead to believe would do the trick.

>> What is it that makes a system at least 07-12

The OS core.
If the core is at this level, all the drivers, patches etc. are at the same minimum.

Thanks Torsten, what I'm trying to find out is if this is a major update where we put the media in and say update all or we are just updating a bundle or something. So if I do swlist | grep -i core it should come up with that bundle or product?

Getting information from the HP site is tricky at best.. we did the VM upgrade and it failed on HPUXBaseAux not at 0612 but I'm guessing that may be the tip of the iceberg. We thought we were prepared after the SWA update. It would be helpful if HP didn't just say update HPUX to 0712 in their docs and left you to it, but instead pointed to where information was that helped you achieve this.

It's in fact that easy. Use update-ux and it will update everything. Install newer patches (swa) after this.

update-ux is always part of the installer media. Use swinstall to install this, then run it (after the backup!).
