Error occured during fbackup.

Hi,

I got error while taking backup through SAM
Error in syslog:
hadmhp1 vmunix: SCSI TAPE: dev = 0xcd002040 I/O error during close.
Please help me out on this as this is production server.

I/O errors are ofteh cause by a bad tape media, a bad connection or a bad drive.

First clean the drive and try another media.

I have already ran the cleaning tape and checked for connection but did not found anything.

take a look at this thread:

the awk error posted by SAM is pretty much irrelevant at this point. As you noted previously "vmunix: SCSI TAPE: dev = 0xcd002040 I/O error during close."

That pretty much means you've either bad media, a dirty drive or a hardware failure. STM / CSTM or Library and Tape Tools should point you in the correct direction.

I'd check cabling, terminator and run one of the above tools to try the drive. Of course, it could simply need replacement. You could also try a different backup tool to write to the tape.

Once the issue with the backup itself is fixed, the awk errors should go away as well.

I never seen any problem other than the problems that stated here.

I think , you did not try with a new tape ?

Hi Druvesh,

Regarding the error message seen in sam..

Error can occur if root has entered a custom crontab entry that has a
comment that includes "#sambackup".

SAM will look at all lines with
that string, and give the above error message if any of them are not in
the format of SAM's automated backups.
