I know we have to run mk kernel if we need to update kernel..mostly at what situvation rebuilding of kernel needed. what is the procedure

We need to make new kernel when we making some changes in kernel, there are some kernel patches etc.

Note it also depends on the OS version.
Some kernel parms are now dynamic and you no longer need to make a new kernel.

Of course you could use sam to decide whether a kernel is needed. And patches will automatically figure this out.

Kernel rebuilding(mk_kernel & kmupdate) require when we changing kernel parameters(manually).

You can change kernel parameters using SAM.This utility will automatically rebuild kernel with prompt.
