need help on upgrading the patch level.

oracle patches and more system patches are installed in the 11iv2 version, now they want to upgrade it how to analyze what is the patch level currently implemented and what is the upgraded version and how to upgrade it?

The oracle patch requirements for HP-UX 11.31 are different thatn for 11.23 (11i v2).

Two general things to do.

1) Visit http://itrc.hp.com Patch database, download and prepare for installation, the most recent QPK, Quality pack.

2) As part of process #1, input the Oracle required patch list for your OS level and include them in the patch set.

Optional: Use SWA, to perform these tasks and build you a patch set.

What you should not do: Do not use upgrade-ux to update from 11.23 to 11.31. Cold install and re-install of applications is the only way to go to reach 11.31.

no the os version is 11.31 and already the server is fine now we want to upgrade the patch level. to secure the server more

Hi:

HP-UX does not define a discrete "patch-level" like some of the other UNIX operating systems do.

The "standard" patch bundles available from the ITRC Patch database via various means, including with the Software Assistant Tool (SWA) are one benchmark of a level. Particularly with 11.31 (11iv3) a (perhaps) better reference is the "update" level. This is achieved by using the 'update-ux' tool to refresh patches and core products not otherwise delivered as patches. You can use SUM (the Software Update Manager) to request media for updating your "update" level.

Your system is having Sept 2007 patch bundles. So you need to download the latest QPK bundles of 2009 & install it.
