Hi! need help from expert, how to solve this probs? i want to generate my hp-ux server info but get below msg...

# /opt/ignite/bin/print_manifest

This device may be off line.
NOTE: Could not read the /etc/resolv.conf file.

Hi,

1. Did you power up the tape drive, is it connected to the system?

2. /etc/resolv.conf does it exist and what are its rights: rw-r--r-- ?

I agree with the permissions issue on the resolv.conf file.

On the tape drive - try doing an 'ioscan -fnC tape' and see what it returns. Do you actually have a tape drive at that address? Or was there one there at one time and it has been removed, but the device files for it still exist?

Those are just warnings, you still have your print_manifet output.

If you don't need resolv.conf, then you will always see this WARNING.

As for the tape drive, it appears that you have a device file for a non-existent tape drive. Follow Patrick's instructions to see what tape devices you actually have.

DO lssf /dev/rmt/c3t0d0BESTn to see if device is active And permissions for the resolve.conf file.

Hi,

I am supportive of Patrick's suggestion to perform an ioscan to check whether the device c3t0d0 is offline (eg. NO_HW in ioscan output).

If it is off-line, then you would not be able to probe further details via its attached device file.
