Hi There,
Today I have assigned new LUNs on SAN storage to our HP-UX server with 11i V3.But when I run the ioscan -m dsf, the alternate paths are not visible to the newly assigned disks. Please help me with this.

In the below output,disk34 to disk42 are newly assigned ones.

root.uxblrh05:(/) >ioscan -m dsf
Persistent DSF Legacy DSF(s)
========================================
/dev/pt/pt3 /dev/rscsi/c2t0d0
/dev/rdisk/disk3 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0
/dev/rdisk/disk3_p1 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s1
/dev/rdisk/disk3_p2 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s2
/dev/rdisk/disk3_p3 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s3
/dev/pt/pt5 /dev/rscsi/c4t0d0
/dev/rdisk/disk11 /dev/rdsk/c5t0d0
/dev/rdsk/c3t0d0
/dev/rdisk/disk12 /dev/rdsk/c5t1d4
/dev/rdsk/c3t1d4
/dev/rdisk/disk13 /dev/rdsk/c5t1d5
/dev/rdsk/c3t1d5
/dev/rdisk/disk14 /dev/rdsk/c5t1d6
/dev/rdsk/c3t1d6
/dev/rdisk/disk15 /dev/rdsk/c5t1d7
/dev/rdsk/c3t1d7
/dev/rdisk/disk16 /dev/rdsk/c5t2d0
/dev/rdsk/c3t2d0
/dev/rdisk/disk17 /dev/rdsk/c5t15d1
/dev/rdsk/c3t15d1
/dev/rdisk/disk34 /dev/rdsk/c3t3d1
/dev/rdisk/disk35 /dev/rdsk/c3t3d2
/dev/rdisk/disk36 /dev/rdsk/c3t3d3
/dev/rdisk/disk37 /dev/rdsk/c3t3d4
/dev/rdisk/disk38 /dev/rdsk/c3t3d5
/dev/rdisk/disk39 /dev/rdsk/c3t3d6
/dev/rdisk/disk40 /dev/rdsk/c3t3d7
/dev/rdisk/disk41 /dev/rdsk/c3t4d0
/dev/rdisk/disk42 /dev/rdsk/c3t4d1
If you are connected to SAN via multiple FC interfaces, all of their WWNs should be specified when assigning disks. Looks like you only specified one of them. Just poking around in the dark, so maybe a more detailed information on your setup and `ioscan -kfnC disk` would be more helpful if this has nothing to do with your case.

Not sure what array you have, but maybe the device files are still not there yet (insf?) or the LUN is not visible over this path.

If not in ioscan, the server cannot see them (for whatever reason). Double check the "presentation" settings.

I am not getting any output when I run insf command. Can this be the reason for not being able to view the alternate paths?.

root.uxblrh05:(/) >insf -C disk
root.uxblrh05:(/) >

insf will create special device files for **visible** devices in that case; no device - no device file!

I notice these new LUNs appear to be on a different port - have you checked the director bits set on the symmm port to make sure they match those LUNs already presented (IIRC you need to set the SPC2 and OS2007 bits for 11iv3)

HTH

Duncan
