I am taking a scsi card (HP28696a) from a test
box and putting on another test box to hook up a dlt tape drive. Problem is when I put in on the other test box it will not boot up, remove it and it boots fine. Card and tape drive work great on original box.
Is there a driver I need to set beforehand?
Any ideas,
Thanx
mike
some additional information would be of use!
what OS?
what model are you trying to install it in?
what is the hardware path you are trying to insert it in?
what does an ioscan -fk output show, e.g. does it already know about a card in that slot?
Mike,

As melvyn has pointed out, you need to supply a lot more info.

Also, what slot are you putting the card into?

What is the firmware level of your machines?

live free or die
harry

it's a k460 running 11.0
this box use to be part of a service guard cluster and this slot which is now empty use
to have a fddi card in it for failover. That card has long since been removed.
addrss is 8/4, the fddi card in the slot right beside it is 10/4
I'm just learning how to install some of the pieces I need on these test boxes getting ready for production.
Any help will be appreciated muchly
Mike

I belive that the problem is what I suspected, that you had a networking card of some type in there and now you ar eputting in an other type of card. I have seen this before. I am trying hard to remember how you fix this, but age creeps up on you ;-}
I know you have to removethe definition in the ioconf file about this card, it just escapes me the method.
I will try to research this.

Hi Mike:

I think Melvyn is on the right track. The command you are looking for is rmsf. You can try an ioscan to see if the box still thinks the FDDI card is present. If so, note the hardware path. If not, look on the back of your box (typically on the power supply) and determine the hardware path of this slot. You should then be able to do a rmsf -k -H 10/4/4 (for example). Man rmsf for details. This needs to be done without your SCSI controller card inserted. I would also look for any /etc/rc.config.d stuff that references the old FDDI card. If you find them, adjust the settings so that the scripts will not run.
