Hi,

No you cannot remote mount a CDROM with the
installation on it unless you have the system
already installed on systemB with the processes
running for NFS.

You cannot build another system remotely unless
you use 'boot lan install' from an Ignite client booting from a server that has been set up as an Ignite server. This is why these tools were invented, so you can do these.

You can create a bootable image on CD and a
bootable tape also using ignite.

-Michael

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I don't want to do IG-UX. Is it possible to do installation for a particular m/c from other m/c by mounting CDROM.

I think you can in fact,

The cdrom is possibly a registered depot, if not swreg,
from the Command Menu: Main Menu> BO LAN.1.2.3.4 INSTALL

and you should get an install screen...

At least I can remember this happening while testing an ignite server and SEA LAN did show up a server with an install CD in it...

If it doesn't work, I gues there was some other magic involved ;)

Later,
Bill

The hint from Bill only works if you have an Igniet/UX Server configured.

HP-UX has *NO* default remote install utilities. HP-UX 10.X and HP-UX 11.X support Ignite/UX, what I see as a very good program to do remote installations. I'm not sure why you don't want to use it. It's free and simple to configure to get started. You can increase the configuration effort and end up with a Ignite Server that is able to do a complete install + options + local system dependent configurations. Just press a button and some hours later, you have a fully installed and configured system.

On HP-UX 10.X, you also have Network Cold Install. This is also a free software that has to be installed on a install server, but it does not allow confiuration. This just does what you are looking for : allow a client to download a boot package from the network and then use swinstall from the client to install remote software depots. This software is now obsolete and no longer supported on HP-UX 11.X
