TOP command status

Hi ALL

I am using HP itanium server , mode is rx6600. Recently i find some issue, whenever ia m doing TOP command its showing 4USER. after that i checked USERS command , its showing " root root root root".

Can anyone explain how it happend .Please...

Hi,

TOP command shows you the top resource consuming processes running in your system. For example if CPU is consumed heavily you see high percentage for that process under CPU column. If a process is consuming lot of memory you see high percentage of memeory in the MEM column for that process.

What you actually see ?

So what did you see in you TOP command.

root is user name from which those process are started.

hi,

if you have a EOE, you oculd use glance or gpm ( gui ) instead of top.

I want to ask 4 root user came. I am only using machine. Nobody dnt know passwords. Is it hanged ?

hi

if top shows four root means,, some process run by root.

users cmd displays 4 root means someone may be taking rlogin to the particular server.eventhough u said no one knows root pwd so if u logged in server it should show ur username.

so for complete clerance ,,, paste the output of

w,last -R -5 root, users

It just says 4 users as root are logged in to the server.
they must be doing something, people might have not logged out.

check with all who have root permission may be send a wall message :)

There seems to be nothing wrong with it.

Hi,

Unless HP-UX has overnight become a linux variant, the above output doesnt come from a HP-UX system. ;)

hi

other user with root access has logged on from jan 25,

they have be idle for more than 135 days

check for user with root permission and talk to ur team regd this.
