    <description>Hello  Eric,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;            As said i have used ioscan -C tape before starting the backup , then also it was not able to initialize properly giving same error.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Please check what all steps i have used and let me know anything wrong&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;1) I have added a dummy dvd device to the VM.using &lt;BR /&gt;hpvmmodify -P sflqly -a dvd:scsi:0,1,0:null:/depotcd. where depotcd is  an empty directory.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;2) Next i added Tape to VM&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;hpvmmodify -P sflqly -a tape:scsi:0,1,1:attach:/dev/rscsi/c0t3d0&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt; With this commands i was able to add tape dynamically. But I am facing lot of problems with Automatic Backup using SAP.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Backup is failing randamly.. One day it will be sucessfull and some time it is failing giving below error&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;BR0205I Backup volume initialization &lt;BR /&gt;BR0058I BRBACKUP action ID: beebveaw &lt;BR /&gt;BR0059I BRBACKUP function ID: tib &lt;BR /&gt;BR0102I Following backup device will be used: /dev/rmt/0mn BR0131I All volumes get the name SCRATCH BR0129I Force option set - no label checking during initialization BR0134I Unattended mode with 'force' active - no operator confirmation allowed &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;BR0207I Volume in device: /dev/rmt/0mn will be initialized with name: SCRATCH &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;BR0280I BRBACKUP time stamp: 2010-09-09 13.00.07 BR0226I Rewinding tape volume in device /dev/rmt/0m ... &lt;BR /&gt;BR0278E Command output of 'LANG=C mt -f /dev/rmt/0m rew': &lt;BR /&gt;/dev/rmt/0m: No such device or address &lt;BR /&gt;BR0280I BRBACKUP time stamp: 2010-09-09 13.00.08 BR0279E Return code from 'LANG=C mt -f /dev/rmt/0m rew': 1 BR0213E Winding tape volume in device /dev/rmt/0mn failed BR0219E Initialization of volume SCRATCH in device /dev/rmt/0mn failed &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;BR0206I End of backup volume initialization BR0280I BRBACKUP time stamp: 2010-09-09 13.00.08 BR0054I BRBACKUP terminated with errors &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;As mentioned above i used ioscan -C tape command then also today backup failed.Please let me know how to solve this..&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks in Advance&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

But after adding the tape back up is not starting automatically using SAP.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Please refer this thread.       <description>Oups, didn't saw that you added a post to your previous thread.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Maybe the reason is just because you add/delete the tape online. So, instead of running 'insf -e' on a regular basis, should you run 'ioscan -C tape' in the VM after adding back the tape (as suggested by Prashantj) ?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Silly question : are you sure that the tape is correctly presented to the VM when you try to use it ? &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Eric</description>

      <description>Yes Eric.. i have presented i tape properly. i used command give by you itself.. Then also we are having problems in taking backup. Actually while intializing the tape with SAP we have getting this error and backup is not starting&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
