Hi Charlie:

> I want to give a user the root privileges, is there any way to give it withouth modifying the User ID.

You could set 'sudo' such that the times your user needs privileges it's granted. You could also make a 'setuid' wrapper for the particular command you need to run.

> Is there a way to give an user two user ids?

No, it's the UID (number) that matters. The UID is mapped to a name for the convenience of humans.

Regards!

...JRF...

Its better to use sudo rather than assigning UID as 0.

if this is a regular practice and u can afford 3rd party software.....go for powerbroker etc.

BR,
Kapil+

Hi,

I agree with JRF for the first question, use sudo.

and besides, if you have SAM ( OS version 11iv3 has no longer SAM as far as I know)
you can use Restricted SAM;

# # sam â r

## Invoke the Restricted SAM Builder. This
enables the system administrator to provide
limited non-superuser access to SAM functionality.
> Is there a way to give an user two user ids?

No. Go either for RBAC, or add the users in question to a common group, and add group-wide permissions to the files.
