Hi Shiv:

PA_RISC hardware is no longer manufactured, but the current release (11.31 or 11iv3) runs on existing PA-RISC machines just fine. Whether or not 11iv4 (not yet announced) will offer support for PA-RISC is yet to be seen.

You can ascertain the longevity of your *hardware* support here:

http://h20338.www2.hp.com/hpux11i/downloads/public_hp-ux_systems_support.pdf

Regards!

...JRF...

>JRF: You can ascertain the longevity of your *hardware* support here:

That document is a little dated, it already says it expired. But I don't see a newer one.

11i v3 support has been extended to 2020:
http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/downloads/HP-UX%2011i%20v3%20Support%20Extension%20Announcement_2010-09.pdf

Hi (again):

> Dennis: That document is a little dated, it already says it expired. But I don't see a newer one.

May 2010 doesn't seem too outdated, especially in the absence of the ability to find anything newer.

It's very interesting that 11.31 (11iv3) support has been extended another 3-years. I think that is a good thing based on Shiv's question. To my knowledge, there is nothing known about future support for PA-RISC in the public sector. If I had to guess, I'd bet that 11iv4 when it appears will only offer Itanium (Integrity) support and in part this is the reason for the 11.31 support extension.

Regards!

...JRF...

Jim/Dennis,

I was just looking at the fine print on the support matrix that you were referring to and noticed this:

"This document expires 90 days from its last update.
Please find the latest at www.hp.com/go/hpuxservermatrix"

Since we all know that HP never changes locations of precious documents, this would seem to be the safe way to bookmark the most current version, don't you think?

Pete

Shalom Shiv,

As I recall reading HP-UX 11iv3 is the last version of the OS that will support PA-RISC.

That question does not seem to be answered in the discussion that has occurred in the thread.

We're relying on my memory here, which could be flawed.

11.31 gives you OS support until 2017 though by then most of the RISC hardware will be nearing end of life.

SEP
