We have HP-UX version 11.11 and informix IDS 7.31. Server is a DB server with RP series.
The backup is taken from server to ultrium tape using ontape utility.

After reboot the backup goes smoothly and gets completed in 8 hrs but after one or two days most of the time it gives error "Memory Fault" or backup goes very slow, sometimes it goes for more than 2 -3 days.

Memory is 64 GB then what could be the reason for backup goes slow OR for memory fault error

>>Memory fault --is it dumping core as well,

if so it would be good idea to get it analyzed.
Memory fault may not occur due to lack of memory.
But since couple of backups are slow
is "sar -d 5 5 " shows disks bottlenecks
while you are backing up & what about memory usage in glance & swap usage in "swapinfo -tam". Does they indicate something.

Do read this thread.

http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/System-Administration/5599-memory-fault-coredump/m-p/3703425#M6499

have you ever made informix stop - start after event happened ?
and maybe a reboot to server ?
when it comes to memory fault that is typical error from informix due to stuck on shared memory between chunks, a memory management due to informix itself occured.
Besides, a better version available for informix nowadays, maybe a update will be better..

>for memory fault error

This is a signal 11, a software problem or bug.
If you have a core file, you could include the stack trace from gdb here.
What does "file core" show on your core file?

Could you post the $ONCONFIG file contents and output of "onstat -g seg" after a few days running? You obviously really need to upgrade your Informix version: IBM won't help as it's out of support.

Regards,
Doug Lawry
Oninit Consulting
