start RPC daemon took a long time

Dear
from the start up processes in HP-UX 11.31
the process " Start RPC Daemon if needed" took a real long time to come up.
can someone please give me some suggestions, what was the problem...

look for any errors related to this in /etc/rc.log

Needs to check the NFS settings as well ,is it a NFS client machine !!

Thank you for your replies.

the rc.log did not show any error. and yet it is nfs and nis client.
would you elaborate a bit more to what to check.

it might be that you have an nfs mount which should be mounted at boot, look into fstab.

# grep nfs /etc/fstab

Are all these mounted?

# bdf

If the NFS server isn't reachable (maybe it have been decomissioned) then you can get a delay like this at boot time. You could also attach the rc.log so we can take a look at it.

try bdf -t nfs & yes we may see the /etc/fstab
& /etc/rc.config.d/nfsconf for the nfs boot settings.

Common problems are often linked in with network / hostname resolution issues ....

Places to check other than rc.log

a) syslog.log

b) var/opt/dce/svc.*.logs

any other services impacted ? Same issue if you restart rpcd ?

Thank you all.

when RPC boot-up in level 2 it took a long time 5 mins or more. not much i could do at this level.
but when the server ap1 was up first, it came up normal (in 10 seconds)

So seems like a NFS client !!

check showmount -e
