I need to create an 3rd v-par on a N-par.
Already 2 v-pars running on a N-par 0

will show you free resources you can use for another vPar.

Can i execute this to create the 3rd new V-par from running V-par :

vparcreate -p vptest3 -a cell:0::cpu:4 -a mem::2048 -a io: 1/0/0/3/0.6.0 Boot

The "cpu" item may not be correct and the internal disk may already part of another vpar.

Example for cpu assignment:

-a cpu::6 -a cpu:::4:8

min = 4
current = 6
max = 8

The disk (at least the LBA) is already part of another vPar, sou you cannot use!

For CPU I would do

-a cpu::2 -a cpu:::1:4

for example.

You need another boot disk!!!

so i should add a new disk & define that path for the new vpar to be booted on.

You need an FC or SCSI adapter in one of the free slots with a disk connected to it.

Thanks, so for eg:

After i connect a SCSI so disk is avail to server :

Then i perform ioscan -funCdisk

then with the newly added HDD i can specify the HW path in the vparcreate cmd can i?

Since the free slots are powered off (unassigned, not part of any vpar); you cannot show them in ioscan when in vpar mode.

So i cannot check the boot disk untill i create a V-par & boot the OS from the disk ?

You can also boot in nPar mode to get the detailed path - or you just "calculate" the path, create the vPar and install the OS.

Ok Thanks tortsen, let me see to boot in N-par mode & try to see the detailed path before my Manual calculations do it.

By booting into v-pars mode, the current 2 running v-pars need to be OS shutdown correct ?

Yes, of course.

Shutdown the vPars, then reset the nPar, stop at boot menu and boot vmunix instead of vpmon.

Hi Torsten,

Is the available memory includes vpar2 memory also, I see the dptest2 having some available memory of some 8192MB..so do we need to consider the total ILM before creating the additional vpar?
